zip it, mom.

Today I was holding Ellie and I was making some strange sound with my mouth,
(you know, the kind of sounds that mommies make to try and get their kids to make cuz it's just so darn cute when they do it)
......then all of a sudden, Ellie takes her binky out of her mouth and sticks it in my mouth.

hahahah that is why I love her.

baby shower banner

Melissa asked if I would make a banner for a baby shower that she is in charge of. For TWINS!
She wanted me to use a damask theme with baby blue. We had to change up the original saying of "It's a Boy", So this is what I came up with:

homemade mini oreo hearts

I wanted to make something different this year for Valentine's Day, rather than the original sugar cookie. What is more opposite than an oreo cookie?? :)

I usually just make circle oreo cookies with no sprinkles, but I decided to attempt a heart-shaped sparkly version.
(and no, these aren't supposed to be 'broken hearts' hahah.....although they do sort of look like it.)

Oreo Cookie Recipe
(I got this recipe from my lovely sister-in-law)

For the cookies:
-2 devil's food cake mixes
-1 cup shortening
-4 eggs

For the frosting:
-4 oz. soft cream cheese
-1/2 cup soft butter
-4 cups powdered sugar

Use an electric mixer to combine the cake mixes, shortening, and eggs together in a bowl. (The dough will be very thick so you might have to use a dough hook rather than the beaters.) Form the dough into small balls and bake on cookie sheets at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. (they will look slightly undercooked.) As you take the cookie sheets out of the oven, drop the cookie sheet on the counter one or two times to collapse and slightly flatten the cookies. When the cookies are cooled, use the fillings to sandwich them.

Alterations to make the sprinkled hearts:
After you form the dough into small balls, roll it in sprinkles. Then put on cookie sheet and bake. After you have collapsed the cookies on the counter, take a heart shaped cookie cutter and cut out a heart from the hot cookie. Remove excess scrap of cookies and eat it! :)

Then package them up and give some to a loved one!  xoxoxox
Happy Valentine's Day. Much love to all of my readers!

Valentine's gift idea

I am sure most of my readers are I think it's a great idea to hint to your loved one what you really want this V-Day. :)
3B Yoga is having a huge sale on yoga passes and memberships! But the sale ends tomorrow, so hurry on down there to the Shops of Riverwoods and check out their new yoga studio. Guys- this is a great gift to give to your woman. Who doesn't like a place where they can relax, meditate, and get in shape at the same time? They have different classes for any skill level.

Can someone please tell me?

Why is Ellie an angel for her dadda, and a little brat for her momma? I love the girl to death....don't get me wrong. But lately she has been whiney, and she pulls my hair, and hits my face, and throws tantrums in the middle of the AT&T store, and pulls my earrings....I mean, really?? Then she goes with Ben and is a complete ANGEL. What am I doing wrong! Is it because I give in when she whines and give her what she wants?
You moms out there, I need advice. I do NOT want her to grow up and start acting like dear Mckenzie in my previous post. ;)

over-sized zinc letters

Most of us have seen these over-sized zinc letters from Anthropologie....they are amazing!
But the price is...umm...scary. $18- $98 per letter.

THIS GORGEOUS kitchen has them displayed. Aren't they lovely?

Well, I came across this tutorial on how to make them yourself. For $2 per letter plus the cost of paint!
Because let's admit, we can't quite afford the ones from Anthropologie.... (Especially when we are looking to spell a whole word with them...YIKES!)
Check it out here!

Do-it-yourself Valentine garland

This garland is easy and fun to make! Thanks to pebbles for the idea.
360 hearts makes for a 24 ft. long garland!

Use a die-cut machine or a punch to cut out hearts from paper of your choice.
(It looks good if you choose paper that have a pattern on one side and a solid color on the other side.)

Put two hearts back to back and sew a straight line through the hearts with your sewing machine. Leave about 1/4 inch - 1/2 inch before you start your next heart, so there is some space inbetween each heart. Sew through all of the hearts until you get the length of the garland that you want.

Next, unfold each set of paper hearts that were sewn together,
and fan them out so they make a 360 degree heart.

I decided to put it on my desk at work to spice it up for Valentine's Day!
(even though I really don't like this holiday that much......haha)

wouldn't this make a cute wreath? I don't know how I would make it hold a heart shape....maybe glueing a wire along the seam line? if you try it, let me know how it turns out!

Happy crafting!

The Landy

Risen from the dead.

First time driving it in felt amazing! The guys in my family re-built the Landy after it was totalled in a crash.. . . .and how they knew how to build a car from scratch, is beyond me. Nice work boys!

This puts us at four (4) Land Rovers in the family. I think we might have a small obsession with European vehicles.... ;)

From the Archives

Today I walked into the room where my dusty treadmill sits, and decided I needed to start running again. I have a few races that I need to train for and I am definitely not ready for them! Well, I really like to listen to music while I run. In fact, it's almost impossible for me to run without it. Since my Ipod broke, I looked around the room and spotted an old beaut from my past.     The boom box.
Next to it was a stack of cds, so I started going through them. I then realized that they were all from my junior high years-sophomore year of high school! As I thumbed through them, I found a Gangster cd that someone burned for me,  'Save the Last Dance' soundtrack that my sister in law burned, and a "Drop it Like it's Hot" labeled cd, who I am assuming was from my friend Jamie. hahaha I just about DIED. What the crap did I listen to back then!? My mind instantly got flooded with memories of me being the first one out of my friends to get my license, and us cruising around O-Town in my parent's beat up Land Rover, listening to rap music. We thought we were sooooo cool.
 Good times for sure.....
I must redeem myself, however. I will give myself some credit for having some decent jams in my old collection, such as: Cat Stevens, Dave, Weezer, Guns & Roses, Bob Marley & the Wailers, The Beatles, Ben Harper, and the Steve Miller Band.
Remember...this was in 8th,9th, and 10th grade :)
By the way...who has a boom box and cds anymore?? Not many that I know of. haha

Let's just say that I had a good run this morning :)
